Both Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco and White Plains Hospital were given an "A" grade for patient safety in a new Fall 2023 report by the Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog organization that advocates for safety in hospitals.
The new report grades nearly 3,000 hospitals across the country based on how well they protect patients from preventable medical errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, according to the group. The report is issued twice a year.
Both hospitals received an "A" grade in the Spring 2023 report as well.
In response to receiving the top grade, Northern Westchester Hospital Executive Director Derek Anderson said that the report is a reflection of hard work.
"This report stands as a testament to our efforts to improve and optimize the quality of care we provide across the entire spectrum of healthcare services," Anderson said, adding, "Our local communities can trust in our commitment to achieving superior healthcare outcomes through our continuous pursuit of excellence.”
Other hospitals in the area were also assigned a grade by the Fall 2023 report:
Hospitals given a "B" rating were:
- Phelps Hospital, Sleepy Hollow.
Hospitals given a "C" rating were:
- New York-Presbyterian Westchester, Bronxville;
- St. John's Riverside Hosptial - Andrus Pavilion, Yonkers;
- St. Joseph's Medical Center of Yonkers;
- Putnam Hospital, Carmel;
- New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital, Cortlandt Manor
Hospitals given a "D" rating were:
- Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla;
- Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.
